Hi Eric. I like this image and think it conveys exactly the point you are trying to make if you are arguing that we are indeed fighting in Iraq for oil. I am wondering if in your mind that when we say we are fighting for “oil,” we mean “oil” literally, figuratively, or both? It seems the US literally needs to maintain access and as much control as possible in oil production, but I also wonder what “oil” has come to be a metaphor or better yet a metonym for. What benefits does “oil” provide us? What would happen if we lose access and/or control of “oil”? Why is “oil” so important to our foreign and domestic relations?
